Enfin, la nouvelle qu'attendait tous les tifosi napolitains est tombée : Ferrari sera bien préssente à la Targa Coscia, que certains n'hésitent pas à appeler "Gran Premio di Napoli". Non seulement Jacky Ickkx bénéficiera de sa nouvelle 312B3, mais une seconde voiture sera conduite par l'italien Arturo Merzario, aussi grand par le talent qu'il est petit par la taille. Merzario arbore un grand chapeau de cowboy aux couleurs de son sponsor personnel Marlboro ce qui permet de le reconnaitre dans la foule des stands ou sa faible stature le ferait aisément disparaître.
Une autre participation qui fera plaisir aux spectateurs est celle de la timide autant que jolie pilote italienne Grazia de Lacrowe au volant de la Lotus-Thermax. Elle sera d'ailleurs accompagnée de son coéquipier Chris Lewis bravant la gronde des autres pilotes britanniques.
Toujours chères aux couleurs italiennes, deux voitures sponsorisées par les apériitfs Martini seront présentes. L'italo américain Chichiarino alignera sa Tyrell-Aston Martin, déjà bien connue.
Mais d'autre part, Chris Amon dera faire débuter la Tecno PA123, une voiture encore inconnue dont l'artisan italien attend de meilleurs résultats que ceux obtenus 'an dernier dans les mains de Nanni Galli et Derek Bell. Pour cela, les frères Perderzani comptent sur la réputaztion de metteur au point hors-pair du pilote kiwi, rendu disponible par le retrait de Matra qui se concentre sur Le Mans cette année.

Finally, the news that all the Neapolitan tifosi were waiting for has fallen: Ferrari will be present at the Targa Coscia, which some do not hesitate to call "Gran Premio di Napoli". Not only will Jacky Ickkx benefit from his new 312B3, but a second car will be driven by Italian Arturo Merzario, as tall in talent as he is short in size. Merzario wears a large cowboy hat in the colors of his personal sponsor Marlboro which allows him to be recognized in the crowd at the stands where his low stature would easily make him disappear.
Another participation which will please the spectators is that of the shy as well as the pretty Italian driver Grazia de Lacrowe at the wheel of the Lotus-Thermax. She will also be accompanied by her teammate Chris Lewis braving the scolding of other British drivers.
Always dear to the Italian colors, two cars sponsored by the Martini aperitifs will be present. The Italian-American Chichiarino will line up his already well-known Tyrell-Aston Martin.
But on the other hand, Chris Amon will debut the Tecno PA123, a still unknown car from which the Italian craftsman expects better results than those obtained last year in the hands of Nanni Galli and Derek Bell. To do this,the Prderzani brothers are counting on the reputation of the Kiwi driver as an unparalleled tune-up, made available by the withdrawal of Matra who is focusing on Le Mans this year.

Peu de personnes lisant la presse locale néerlandaise, cette photographie prise sur la piste motocycliste d'Assen est passée relativement inaperçue.
Pourtant la rumeur se répandait qu'en grand secret, le team Arno préparait une voiture révolutionnaire pour 1973.
Est ce bien de cette voiture qu'il s'agit? Le pilote porte pour le moment un caque blanc qui le rend méconnaissable, quand aux couleurs, elles ne ressemblent pas du tout à l'orange traditionnel des Arno-Tecno.
On avait aussi entendu des rumeurs de rapprochement entre l'écurie anglaise BRM et le studio de design hollandais des frères Das, mais on croyait le projet enterré depuis l'apparition de la BRM P160D.
Se pourrait il qu'une autre équipe néerlandaise soit en gestation? A l'heure ou j'écris ces lignes, le mystère reste entier.

With few people reading the local Dutch press, this photograph taken on the Assen motorcycle track has gone relatively unnoticed.
However the rumor spread that in great secrecy, the Arno team was preparing a revolutionary car for 1973.
Is this the car that it is? The pilot is currently wearing a white helmet which makes him unrecognizable, when the colors, they do not at all resemble the traditional orange of the Arno-Tecno.
We had also heard rumors of a merger between the English team BRM and the Dutch design studio of the Das brothers, but we believed the project buried since the appearance of the BRM P160D.
Could it be that another Dutch team is in the making? At the time of this writing, the mystery remains unsolved.

Puisque les places sur la grille de la Targa Coscia semblent ouvertes, je décide de redonner sa chance à Vittorio Bramnbilla, qui avait montré de belles choses la dernière fois que je lui avais confié un volant.
Vittorio a d'abord commencé dans les sports mécaniques sur deux roues en 1957 où il remporte l'année suivante, le titre italien dans la catégorie 175cc. Par la suite, il se met au karting et est également le mécanicien de son frère Ernesto qui court en Formule 2. En 1969, il est de retour derrière un volant, celui d'une Formule 3 Birel de l'équipe Picchio Rosso, avec laquelle il s'en va remporter les épreuves de Vallelunga et de Monza. L'année suivante, son écurie lui permet de courir en Formule 2 sur une Brabham-Ford, réussissant à terminer en deuxième position lors de la course de Salzbourg, puis de celle de Munich. En 1971, il continue de courir en F2 et est de retour dans le championnat italien de F3, où il gagne à Monza et Imola. C'est l'année suivante, que Vittorio va enfin remporter le titre italien de F3, avec quatre victoires au cours de l'année. En cette année1973, il dispose d'une March-Ford de l'écurie Beta Racing, et montre enfin son talent depuis le début de l'année.
Je lui confie donc ma troisième voiture, que je repeins en orange pour une livraison gratuite d'outils Beta Utensili, l'excellente marque italienne qui le soutient; en lui recommandant surtout de ne pas la casser !

Since the seats on the Targa Coscia's grid seem open, I decide to give his chance to Vittorio Bramnbilla, who had shown great things the last time I gave him a wheel.
Vittorio first started in motor sports on two wheels in 1957 where he won the following year the Italian title in the 175cc category. Subsequently, he started karting and was also the mechanic of his brother Ernesto who raced in Formula 2. In 1969, he was back behind a steering wheel, that of a Formula 3 Birel from the Picchio Rosso team, with which he goes to win the events of Vallelunga and Monza. The following year, his team allowed him to race in Formula 2 on a Brabham-Ford, managing to finish second in the Salzburg race, then in Munich. In 1971 he continued to race in F2 and returned to the Italian F3 championship, where he won at Monza and Imola. It was the following year that Vittorio would finally win the Italian F3 title, with four victories during the year. In this year 1973, he had a March-Ford from the Beta Racing team, and finally showed his talent since the beginning of the year.
So I entrust him with my third car, which I repaint in orange for a free delivery of tools Beta Utensili, the excellent Italian brand that supports him; by recommending him especially not to break it!

A la Scuderia Centro Sud, Luigi avait misé sur une absence des Ferrari, et secrètement préparé sa troisième voiture pour Jacky Ickx. Mais puisque Jacky sera alignée par l'usine, il aurait été dommage de ne pas employer le châssis numéro 43, n'est il pas vrai?
Un coupe de fil transcontinental résolu la question. Voius souvenez vous de Franky Mennella? le cousin de Luigi aperçu en 1970 au volant d'une Indycars Lola T150 adaptée à Torre del Greco? Libre de tout engagement ce week end, il revient sur les lieux même de ses débuts en F1 ! Et voilà le nombre de concurrents confirmés qui se monte à 14 (si on compte Hans Hulsebos, qui a confirmé sa venue, mais sans confirmer avec quelle voiture, même si la rumeur d'un nouveau châssis se répand)

A transcontinental wire cut solved the question. Do you remember Franky Mennella? Luigi's cousin seen in 1970 at the wheel of a Lola typed Indycars adapted to F1 at Torre del Greco SCS workshop? Free from any commitment this weekend, he returns to the very scene of his debut in F1! And here is the number of confirmed competitors which amounts to 14 (if we count Hans Hulsebos, who confirmed his arrival, but without confirming with which car, even if the rumor of a new chassis is spreading)

Pressé d'essayer sa monture, Franky sauta dedans alors que les mécaniciens n'avaient pas fini de la peindre et la première photo le montre dans une voiture encore aux couleurs belges de Jacky Ickx. Mais son cousin Luigi n'était pas homme à laisser courir une voiture mal peinte ! La rumeur qu'il ait mis lui même la main aux pinceaux qu'elle soit vraie ou fausse montre bien qu'il n'a pas la réputation de confier des voitures mal préparées à ses pilotes !


Quelques heures plus tard, arrivait dans la soirée un camion immatriculé aux Pays Bas. Les deniers journalistes et curieux présents se précipitèrent pour voir ce qui allait en sortir. C'était la nouvelle Arno ! Reprenant un modèle dessiné par les frères Das (les designers bien connus dans le domaine de l'architecture) mais refusé par BRM, la firme néerlandaise s'est trouvé un nouveau sponsor, la marque d'alarmes électriques HB Bewaking System qui cherche à se développer au niveau européen.
Le modèle reprend le concept de "Wing Car", déja esquissé chez March (puis Shasta) et chez BRM (puis PZ).
L'idée est de se servir du châssis lui même pour obtenir plus de déportance, permettant de régler les ailerons de manière à privilégier la vitesse de pointe.

In a hurry to try out his mount, Franky jumped in while the mechanics had not finished painting it and the first photo shows him in a car still in the Belgian colors of Jacky Ickx. But his cousin Luigi was not the man to let a badly painted car run! The rumor that he himself put his hand to the brushes whether it is true or false shows that he does not have the reputation of entrusting badly prepared cars to his pilots!

A few hours later, a truck registered in the Netherlands arrived in the evening. The journalists and curious people present rushed to see what was going to come out. It was the new Arno! Taking up a model drawn by the Das brothers (the well-known designers in the field of architecture) but refused by BRM, the Dutch firm has found a new sponsor, the electric alarm brand HB Bewaking System which seeks to develop at European level.
The model uses the concept of "Wing Car", already sketched out at March (then Shasta) and BRM (then PZ).
The idea is to use the chassis itself to obtain more downforce, allowing the fins to be adjusted in such a way as to favor top speed.

Un petit contingent sudaméricain affrète un Boeing pour venir disputer la course napolitaine. Il est composé de deux brésiliens, Luis Pereira Bueno et Chico Lameiro. Le premier a été vu l'an dernier sur March et cette année sur Surtees lors de sa course nationale. Le second a été paerçu au volant d'une F2 appartenant au Team Arnold à Interlagos. Tous deux sont alignés par le Team FADISA, un des nombreux avatars du groupe Vulkan et conduisent des copies de McLaren M19 équipées du dernier V8 Vulkan.
Il y a aussi deux Argentins, Carlos Raush, sur une Vulkan T4 de l'an dernier préparée par Berta et Mauro Martinez, alignée par le Team Ignacio Torres et soutenu par la Banque Nationale, qui retrouve le volant de l'ex-Politoys.

A small South-American contingent charters a Boeing to come and compete in the Neapolitan race. It is made up of two Brazilians, Luis Pereira Bueno and Chico Lameiro. The first was seen last year on March and this year on Surtees during its national race. The second was seen driving an F2 belonging to Team Arnold at Interlagos. Both are aligned by Team FADISA, one of the many avatars of the Vulkan group and drive copies of McLaren M19 equipped with the latest V8 Vulkan.
There are also two Argentinians, Carlos Raush, on a Vulkan T4 from last year prepared by Berta and Mauro Martinez, entered by Team Ignacio Torres and supported by the National Bank, who finds the wheel of the ex-Politoys.
