Hello mates!!
As we all know, yesterday was 1st of May. Without forgetting Roland Ratzenberger in april 30th, this day will be always remembered for the loss of Ayrton Senna, one of the best F1 drivers in history, and according to a lot of people, probably the best. For sure, one of the most carismatic and mytical champions of all, with a very special personality.
Yesterday, was the 26th anniversary and today, I would like to do a little tribute. Put this music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iWD71OmWoQ , and Enjoy it:
1984 - Ayrton made his debut with the low competitive Toleman team, with a Turbo Charged engine Hart. Apart from some other great performances (and podiums!!), it's specially remembered the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix. That day, a star was born.
1985 - Senna moved into Lotus, a team who was in difficulties after the death of the team founder, Colin Chapman. Ayrton won his first gp in Portugal, under the heavy rain and showing his superiority in extreme conditions. Apart from Estoril, he also managed to won in Spa-Francorchamps.
1986 - A more consistent season for Ayrton, who followed closely the 3 world championship contenders (Prost, Mansell & Piquet). Senna won in Detroit (USA) and in Spain, with an epic victory over the British Lion, Nigel Mansell.
1987 - No longer JPS Lotus, but Camel yellow Lotus. Turbo Honda engine like the dominating Williams, and using the Active Suspension, Senna did a very good season as well, finishing very close to both Williams, and winning again in Detroit, and in Monaco (would be the first of many).
1988 - Ayrton Senna moved into McLaren, as well as Honda. With Alain Prost as his teammate, they fought very hard in all season, and finally Senna won his 1st World Championship title, over the Professor, who was probably the best driver/car in all grid.
1989 - The war Senna-Prost arrived into the limit. After all season in a very bad atmosphere inside the team, the championship battle ended in the famous manouver in Japan (probably the most famous manouver in history). Leaving apart a lot of political decisions, Prost won his 3rd WC title.
1990 - Prost moved into Ferrari, and Senna stayed in McLaren. Another tough season, that also ended in Japan, but in the opposite side. If it was a revenge in purpose from Senna or not, will be always a topic of conversation. After all, Senna won his 2nd WC title.
1991 - This time the battle was not with the Professor, but with Nigel Mansell and his super Williams. Even if it was a super technological car, the superiority was not there yet and was a very equal season with Senna's McLaren. Senna won his 3rd WC title, and a very special, unforgettable win in Brazil.
1992 - This season McLaren couldn't fight against the super Williams, now absolutely dominant. Even with a car clearly worse than the Williams, Senna managed to win 3 races: Hungary, Monza and the most remembered of this season, Monaco, holding Nigel Mansell. Absolutely epic.
1993 - Nigel Mansell had quit from F1, and Alain Prost took his seat. Probably not as superior as 1992, but still the dominant team, Alain Prost won his 4th WC title. No longer with Honda engine, but Ford engines (note that Benetton had the best Ford engines, not McLaren), Senna managed to fight the title through almost all year. He won in Brazil, Donington, Monaco, Japan and Australia.
Adelaide was the last win for Senna, and his last podium... also for Alain Prost, who retired after this race. This race was also remembered because Prost and Senna, finally did reconciled and made peace.
1994 - Finally Ayrton Senna could move into Williams, hoping to win, and win, and win... but the car, without electronical aids, was hard to drive. He couldn't score points, but still managed to do 3 pole positions in the first 3 races... until the fatal weekend in Imola.
Rest In Peace, champion.
