Dear Hans,
please do not leave us, your job is fantastic.
I totally agree with Rob Ryder: if somebody does not like the way the forum is administrated he can simply leave the forum.

I'm going to leave my opinion, but bear in mind that I write in Spanish and use an online translator to translate it into English; apologies in advance if someone does not understand the comment.
I think that the photos on the web, regardless of whether someone owns the rights to a particular one, should be free. There are millions of photos around, and the original author of the image is lost in time, since there are thousands who share them on as many websites. For example, I have the photo that my father took of me in 1967 with Carlos Reutemann's Fiat 1500, when no one knew him yet. I have shared this photo on dozens of websites, it has circulated, and I have seen that even model car dealers use it. Do I bother about it? No, not at all, I am proud that the photograph that my father took 54 years ago travels the world. He would be very happy about it. At the same time, it wouldn't make sense to oppose it being copied on other sites; in that case, I should have kept it under lock and key and make it a memory that only I can enjoy. If you upload a photo to the web, it becomes everyone's. If a personal photo should be freely circulated, what then to say about one that we no longer even know who the author is? And in such a commercial world, where only money matters, it is at least good to oppose that principle and freely share images.

hi, i would like to encourage hans to remain an active member of the forum.

honestly i think we share the photos here to fuel a personal passion and not for profit.

honestly I am also in a stalemate in posting, as I always try to find interesting photos or from sources not easily "available", like when I searched the Placar archive available free online, posting many photos of the magazine's photojournalists

I immediately approached this forum by deciding to post the photos a little at a time and in a methodical way, in order to be able to contribute constantly over time

then I actually posted so many photos in a short time that I decided to take a break

so I will be able to post interesting photos in the future and at a certain moment I will be able to scan the hundreds of books I own to post rare photos that are not present online

I really like the peaceful and collaborative atmosphere of this forum and I hope it continues like this

Dear friends,

I have just read all reactions on my decision to stop posting here and working on various RbR-sections. Thank you for that!

As was mentioned in most of your reactions 99% of "our" collection is copyrighted material. Sources are in fact irrelevant. Copyright laws do not only include the large agencies like MI, Getty, Alamy etc but are just as much valid for an amateur photographer who decides to publish photos. Scans from magazines, books are also protected by copyright laws. For some reason the focus is always on MI.

The most important thing is we are now a closed forum with only just over 200 members. In my opinion the forum is well protected and as long we don't go public with photos we have in the collection on FB , Instagram or Twitter it will stay that way.

Now my reaction Dawe

- Our Forum is not the reason Stanford University changed it's policy to change to watermarked photos on the website. To think so would be an enormous case of overestimating our influence on the world wide web. Photos published on social media might have contributed, but the main reason is that they decided to go commercial with the collection. A decision you can only take if you start protecting your collection, which is what they did and was just a case of bad luck for us......

- Yes, the RbR sections have grown enormously over the years. Do we need that?...everyone will have his personal view on that. In any case, if you look for something you can be almost sure now we have it. You might call the collection too big, but to call it a "mess" is an insult to all the moderators who work on the RbR sections. Pannie, Winners311, Goodwood95 and me AND to all who contribute to make collections beter and better every day

- Your fear of MI photos becoming watermarked because we are posting them on the Forum.....don't see that point at all, they always were and still are. Sometimes you find a work around and the watermarks magically disappears....The "magic touch" is not only applied to that source but also to many other protected sources you might not know of.

- The last and most important part of my answer. You told me the Forum was not as well protected as we think it is because you knew of a way to lift photos from the Forum without being a member. Now THAT would be a real problem! So I urge you to share that knowledge with us so we can take action (if possible). I think you owe that answer not only to me, but to all members here on the Forum!

So Dawe, here is another invitation to share that knowledge in public or was it maybe an empty remark to make me force into a decision??

I will be happy to continue contributing to the forum but much depends on getting an honest answer to the above question.......

1. My message was not intended to threaten or blackmail anybody, just stupid sarcastic joke.
2. For average skilled hacker there IS a way to break through to access full forum as there is also way to break into revs full archive:

Good to hear from you! I was hoping that would be the case. Well let's forget about it Dawe....to me black and white sheep are the same so don`t worry Smile

Ofcourse you can break into websites like the forum and revs. They are not that heavily armed against hackers, but I am not afraid of the avarage skilled hacker. They have other targets. I am satisfied when it's a bit more than have a look at the sourcecode a find the correct link..... Nice unwatermarked photo of Guerra by the way  Wink

So it´s back to "work"

Have a nice evening Dawe

Come on dawe. My blackmail was also excessive and I apologize for it.
Let's put the incident aside and continue with renewed vigor, as Hans also said.
Lets stay and work together!

Greetings to all including Dawe.
Nice that you are staying, Hans!
Rolf

PS: Sarcastic don´t work in the internet. Seen many times in political Forums.

We are all members of the same group and it will remain the same.. sometimes you can argue, but the important thing is not to avoid them but to resolve the issues ..

I wish the best to all of you!

PS: Please is there a good hacker for Guerrero's pic in Monaco 1983 that is on Re.s? Cool Cool
