Re: My Miniature Collection
if I wanted to start making a collection similar to yours, on what amount should I wait to spend ?
it is necessary to maintain each model in the package or you can also have a mobile with glass to contain these cars ?

If you want to start now, a Spark miniature on 1/43 scale costs around 60 €. Here in Portugal F1 miniatures are very hard to find because most people prefer rallying so stores don't bother so much about F1 . So I buy them around the web and on memorabilia fairs that I go to.
I try to wait for the right moment and buy them on sale. For instance, last Black Friday and Cyber Monday I bought a few miniatures on several websites with 15/20% discount.
Altough, the most sought after miniatures tend to sold out very quickly, for instance Tom Pryce's Shadows usually sold out on stores in two or three weeks time. After that you can only buy them from speculators (I don't know if this is the right word, I mean people that are not collectors but invest in miniatures for making a profit).
Before Spark came out I used to collect Brumm and Quartzo miniatures and later Minichamps. I´m always looking for the most realistic miniatures I can find, so at the present I buy mostly Spark and sometimes Truescale and Looksmart which is the only manufacturer to make Ferrari miniatures with great quality at a more or less affordable price (around 95 to 99 €. Ferrari royalties oblige).
To evaluate the quality of the reproduction of a miniature I compare it with photos of the real car. Thanks to all you guys for that
I also collect racing videos and try to compare the miniatures with images from the video of that specific race.
I started my collection 25 years ago so I I've put a lot of effort into it. I have around 1000 miniatures, from F1 to sportscars, GT, racing transporters and other stuff that I find interesting.
I prefer to keep the miniatures in their original cases, It´s the best way to protect them from dust. A good miniature has lots of small pieces that you can easily damage if you have to dust it, and there is no such thing as a complete dust free showcase...
Another important thing is that the miniatures should not take direct sunlight nor strong artificial light, because it damages the decals. In long-term the colors fade away and the decals could turn yellowish and brittle.
I hope this is helpfull. Anythig else, just ask.

Re: My Miniature Collection
Your explanation was very comprehensive and I am grateful.
Do you currently think you have finished your search for historic cars or maybe you still have some dreams closed in the drawer to buy ?
