#12 (March) actually made the race - #2 was originally Phoenix car .
So did #68 - Mears drove his backup car at Indy.
#24 practiced as 22T.
Cars #26,#41 and 85 were not on track.

Any idea what the weird contraption on the engine cover is for? I suppose it must be some kind of air intake, but it looks very unusual.
This #2 car is also completely different to the #2 car in the opening post of the thread. Did car numbers change throughout the month of May or is one of the pictures from a different year perhaps?

Hi Travis, I'm not sure but I Would say it's an early type of inboard camera. It's huge for today's standards but rather small if you consider it was '81
