Converting tracks from GPL
Hi all,
I'm trying to convert a bunch of tracks from GPL, I was able to convert the objects but I find it very hard to work out the AIW and the other files, can someone suggest me how to do that? Thanks for any kind of help.

There is a tutorial to be downloaded, you'll find the reference at my page

Thank you for you fast answer, but I found only a rF->F1c tutorial

I don't think you can convert directly from GPL to F1C
I hope I'm wrong.
There is a .pdf "GPL to rFactor Track Conversion Tutorial" to be downloaded
here:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBwQFjAAahUKEwin-cyCkL3IAhWCWywKHaQnAns&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sim-garage.co.uk%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2FGPL-to-rFactor-track-conversion-tutorial.pdf&usg=AFQjCNEhFC7e07A3cWBc0GtByx85VbFr-w&bvm=bv.104819420,d.bGg&cad=rja
Also, there's a GPL to rFactor walkthrough here:
http://www.sim-garage.co.uk/tutorials.htm
and here:

Slowin, this is really interesting cause these GPL guys have a lot of old tracks,
but of course their Pitlanes are extremely short and narrow, and generally the
tracks are full of problems. I know it by experience, GPL tracks are a nightmare :s
Anyhow, since you converted the objects (to what format?), now you can use
the texture browser of "3D SimED" to convert the textures.
Supported formats are .mip (N2003), .stp, .bmp, .tga and .dds
What kind of format are the textures in GPL, and, have you got any kind of program
to extract them? Are they inside .MAS files?
If you make any progress I may be able to help you with the .AIWs
Good luck
JF

Re: Converting tracks from GPL
Thank you.
In GPL tracks the textures (*.mip) and objects (*.3do) are often packed together in a filename.dat, that can be exploded with 3dsimed. The same tool can be used to convert all the mip files to bmp/dds, and of course all the 3do to 3ds.
There are some tracks I'd like to convert and I'm working on:
- Borovaya
- Monthlery 1934 (it's longer than the current f1c/rf/gtr2/gtl versions, much more like old Spirit of Speed 1937)
- Circuito de Palermo - Buenos Aires 1948-1950
- Parque Independencia - Rosario 1936-1966
- Studebaker Parque
- Roosevelt (Vanderbilt cup 1937)
and a couple of other tracks.

Okay, you can save as .3ds, but how do you convert them to .mts? (or .gmt)
The 3D SimED does that?
As for the textures, I took a brief look on one of the tutorials, and the guy says
that there are also .srb files, along with the .mip, and that you must select both
of them together, to be converted to .dds (for .dds to .tga use the 3D SimED for
that, it's good. I mean, there is also the "DDS Converter v2.1", the "XnView", etc,
but 3D SimED does the job just fine).
At this point, I would recommend that you go get a freeware program named
"XnView", and that would be very helpful to determine which .dds files have
an alpha channel and should be converted to 32 bit .tga, and which ones don't
have an alpha channel, and should be converted straight to 24 bit .bmp
If you don't have it by now, you should get it, it will be a great help since
you're doing a lot of conversions.
BTW, do you have any version of the "AIW + CAMfile Editor" to fine tune, or
correct the .AIWs of the tracks?
Here is an example of how the program looks like.
You can see one problem, that the Pitboxes are outside the Pitlane's edges,
which means that the Player must hit F10 at the lollipop, and if the timing
isn't good he'll have to run out of fuel. Plus sometimes the AIs just run
through the pits without refueling.
So, that's one of the things that can be improved with this program.
Lots of problems concerning the .AIWs, lots of solutions, too

Re: Converting tracks from GPL
Whoa! Thanks, JimmyF! I wish I could convert Brno37... if that track someday exists.

Yeah, I don't know any make of that.
I know of Brno14963, Brno49 and Brno65, which none of them works
due to bad XPITIN and XPITOUT files, but they are nice to drive at
BTW, Oh my God, the "AIW + CAMfile Editor" has reached v27.0
https://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=AIW%20CAM%20Editor
---------------------------------------------------------------
I'm still using the v3.62, which is the most F1C friendly of them all.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Christian, tell me if you want it, I have also the v3.70, which is okay,
but deletes all of the "wp_event" lines when you save your .AIW, so
you must search beforehand for a wp_event=(1.000,1,18) line, and
write down in a piece of paper at which WP this Limiter ON warning, is.
Then you can do your changes with the v3.70 (which is more rFactor
friendly) and save the .AIW
I also have the v3.97 and v4.05, which I use in case an .AIW is so
messed up that gives CTD with v3.62 and v3.70
And, back in the day I have written a tutorial on how the .AIWs work
and how to work the Editor. I can upload to MediaFire if you guys are
interested.

I have Brno49 layout working perfectly on F1 Hero. I fixed on the past Brno65 (for F1 Hero also), but I don't remember if pits works.
Have a look at this:
Look at the times. Isn't fast-forwarded. Is just a normal one hour session. Araran Brost, Vilmos Balog and Eddie Cheemer time lap data proves it.
Not to mention that there are 32 participants.
I'll release sooner than later both track fixes. The first one will come along with F1 Hero 1999 2-2 (on its final version). The last one will be an easy download (I don't need Brno65).

Don't worry. I have v4.22.

Re: Converting tracks from GPL
I'm sorry, that v27.0 title at RFC was bogus, the highest version
you can get if you follow the links is v4.22.
Definitely not v27.0 :s
