Au début de la saison 1933, de nombreux pilotes changent de montures. Louis Chiron quitte Bugatti pour créer sa propre écurie avec Rudolf Caracciola. Nuvolari souhaite garder son indépendance, il disputera les Grand-Prix de la saison au volant de voitures de marques différentes. Varzi, lui, reste fidèle à Bugatti alors que Campari passe chez Maserati.
Coté constructeurs, Alfa Roméo, avec la Scuderia Ferrari et de nombreux pilotes privés, représente la majorité des voitures engagées. Maserati présente deux voitures d’usine alors que toutes le Bugatti sont aux mains d’indépendants. Effectivement Ettore Bugatti prépare un tout nouveau bolide de Grand-Prix, mais des retards de fabrication empêchent sa participation à la course de Montlhéry. Bugatti déclare forfait.
C’est toujours l’aléatoire tirage au sort qui détermine l’ordre de départ. 20 concurrents sont prêts à en découdre. Le 11 juin le départ est donné pour 40 tours, soit cinq cent kilomètres.
Les favoris Nuvolari et Chiron ont abandonné très tôt. Campari et Etancelin, seuls survivants de cette bataille, ont livré un duel tendu jusqu’au dernier tour, que l’Italien finira par remporter. Seulement six des dix-neuf voitures ont terminé la course.
Ce sera le dernier succès en Grand Prix pour l’Italien, qui décèdera trois mois plus tard dans un accident lors du Grand Prix de Monza.
Philippe Étancelin et George Eyston, tous deux au volant d’Alfa Romeo privées, terminent deuxième et troisième.

At the start of the 1933 season, many pilots changed mounts. Louis Chiron leaves Bugatti to create his own team with Rudolf Caracciola. Nuvolari wishes to keep his independence, he will compete in the Grand Prix of the season at the wheel of cars of different brands. Varzi, he remains faithful to Bugatti while Campari goes to Maserati.
On the manufacturer side, Alfa Roméo, with Scuderia Ferrari and numerous private drivers, represents the majority of the cars entered. Maserati presents two factory cars while all the Bugatti are in independent hands. Indeed Ettore Bugatti is preparing a brand new Grand-Prix car, but manufacturing delays prevent its participation in the Montlhéry race. Bugatti withdraws.
It is always the random draw that determines the starting order. 20 competitors are ready to do battle. On June 11, the start is given for 40 laps, or five hundred kilometers.
Favorites Nuvolari and Chiron retired early. Campari and Etancelin, the only survivors of this battle, fought a tense duel until the last lap, which the Italian ended up winning. Only six of the nineteen cars finished the race.
It would be the last Grand Prix success for the Italian, who died three months later in an accident at the Monza Grand Prix.
Philippe Étancelin and George Eyston, both driving private Alfa Romeos, finished second and third.
