Le circuit

- Le 26 juillet 1925 le Grand Prix de « Vitesse » l'Automobile Club de France attire une foule considérable. Le Président de la République M. Gaston Doumergue, a fait le déplacement.
La course est un vrai duel entre les Alfa Romeo et les Delage. Au 23e tour, Antonio ASCARI sur Alpha Roméo mène la course et doit remporter l'épreuve lorsque son style exubérant et surtout la pluie, lui font heurter les fascines du circuit (un assemblage de branchages qui sert à combler les fossés), il perd le contrôle de sa voiture et fait de multiples tonneaux après avoir frappé une clôture. Il mourut sur le chemin de l'hôpital dans l’ambulance militaire sur la route de Paris. En signe de deuil, l'écurie Alfa Roméo se retira de l'épreuve. Robert BENOIST sur sa Delage 12 cylindres remporte la victoire, Louis Wagner, sur Delage également, se classe second, il n’y avait pas eu de français vainqueur en grand prix depuis douze ans. En hommage à Ascari, Benoist dépose sa gerbe de vainqueur à l'endroit même de l'accident. Une stèle sera plus tard érigée à cet endroit.

The race is a real duel between the Alfa Romeos and the Delages. On the 23rd lap, Antonio ASCARI on Alpha Romeo led the race and had to win the race when his exuberant style and especially the rain caused him to hit the fascines of the circuit (an assembly of branches used to fill in the ditches), he lost the control of his car and rolls over after hitting a fence. He died on the way to the hospital in the military ambulance on the way to Paris. As a sign of mourning, the Alfa Romeo team withdrew from the event. Robert BENOIST on his Delage 12 cylinders wins, Louis Wagner, also on Delage, ranks second, there had not been a French winner in a grand prix for twelve years. In tribute to Ascari, Benoist lays his winner's wreath at the very spot of the accident. A stele will later be erected at this location.

- Le 19 juillet 1925 a lieu le Grand prix de «Tourisme » de l’ACF, le vainqueur est Boillot sur Peugeot en catégorie 5000cc, Lacharnay sur Cottin-Desgouttes en 3000cc, et Contantini sur Bugatti en 1500cc.
Economiquement cette course est un ratage complet, un reporter anglais du magazine «the Autocar » nous le raconte. Au moment du départ il y avait dans les tribunes à peine 59 spectateurs, officiels compris. Les organisateurs avaient affrété 1 train complet et près de 1400 bus depuis Paris pour faire face à l’affluence, en fait seul 21 personnes emprunteront le train et seulement 50 bus seront utilisés. La course très longue se termina dans la nuit et il n’y avait presque plus personne pour accueillir le vainqueur. Un restaurateur local raconte qu’il lui est resté 400 poulets sur les bras.
A noter aussi, un fait remarqué à l’époque, les Bugatti ont fait tout le grand prix sans changé de pneus, elles étaient équipées de Michelin.

On July 19, 1925, the ACF “Tourism” Grand Prix took place, the winner was Boillot on Peugeot in the 5000cc category, Lacharnay on Cottin-Desgouttes in 3000cc, and Contantini on Bugatti in 1500cc.
Economically this race is a complete failure, an English reporter from the magazine "the Autocar" tells us. At the start there were barely 59 spectators in the stands, officials included. The organizers had chartered 1 full train and nearly 1400 buses from Paris to cope with the crowds, in fact only 21 people will take the train and only 50 buses will be used. The very long race ended in the night and there was hardly anyone left to welcome the winner. A local restaurateur says he had 400 chickens left on his hands.
Also note, a fact noticed at the time, the Bugattis did the whole grand prix without changing tires, they were equipped with Michelin.
