New 1983 Race-by-race mod--done right

F1C 1983 Race-by-Race Mod by Neil (neiln1)—done right / April 2022

Almost exactly one year after I finished 1982, 1983 is ready. This new mod includes all the variations in cars and drivers for the 16 teams that qualified for at least one race in 1983. I have made the physical models and graphics as accurate as possible for each team and race; 1983 is even more obsessive-compulsive than 1982. As with ’82 I've included the tracks I edited for 1981, with new graphics especially around the starting lines. You won’t race under a proper Campari bridge at Monza without them.

The material names in the vehicle .mts files have been consolidated wherever possible, so this version of 1983 should run faster and more smoothly than my earlier conversion of Pedro Rippingcorpse’s GP4 mod. (Starts, with all the cars in one place, still tend to be FPS-heavy; the vehicle liveries are almost all 2048x2048 pixels.) Every part of the cars (spindles, etc.) has been detached, as well as the driver bodies (so no more headless bodies in retired cars). This mod is intended to be a standalone; copy the folders over a clean installation of F1 Challenge '99-'02 (i.e., the original game with the Audio, Options, Save, and Seasondata folders removed). If you would like to add Jalnervion’s Special Effects 11.1 you can find the files necessary in the Circuits and Vehicles folders with the names “Joseterrain” and “JoseCmaps.”

One thing I want to emphasize is that at about the same point a number of years ago Kaps and I independently created graphics covering the incredible variety of liveries Arrows ran in 1983; the Arrows artwork in this mod is entirely my own work.

I’m not sure anymore which tracks are my conversions from rFactor and which ones were done by someone else or come from a different source. The great Track Megaupdate 1.02 1982-1996 was helpful to my original editing for 1981.
