How did a F2002 mod from AC end up in F1 2017?
The world of contemporary sim racing continues to be a complete mind**** of drama and miscellaneous ******** that would put off (almost) any casual modder or player of sim-racing.
Assetto Corsa has some amazing single-seater mods. And one of them concerns about the Ferrari F2002, which is made by seven talented individuals. The F1C version of the car compared to this masterpiece is just a kids toy. You can download the car modelled by Salamander's team, and is free to use. The F2002 is faithfully recreated while also exhibiting the same level of quality seen in the officially licensed content released as downloadable content by Kunos Simulazioni themselves. This 2002 Ferrari has been released since January 2016.
Now we go forward in time, and we set in May 2017, when Codemasters released its trailer about classic cars. One of those cars was the Ferrari F2002.
The official videogame was released three months later, and is now out on store shelves. SalamanderSoldier (the main modeller of the F2002 in Assetto Corsa), was extremely excited to see how his rendition of the F2002 would stack up to the same vehicle as modeled by a professional team. The comparison side by side was done and they looked almost identical. SalamanderSoldier thought that he did a really good job working out of pure passion for sim racing, because his car looks and perform similar to Codemasters' counterpart. Maybe even better when it comes to engine sound and car physics.
But then Salamander found the truth.
SalamanderSoldier noticed that an user had posted the Ferrari F2002 3D render from Codemasters release (Formula One 2017) by coming across an Artstation page, which contains some assets for the F1 2017 game. Upon examining the Codemasters rendition, he discovered that the model Codemasters used for the Ferrari F2002 was, definitely, Salamander's own model of the F2002.
In conclusion, Codemasters has taken the material from super-hardcore sim-racing fans, without giving any permission and for their own benefits with no further notification.
What happened after this?
Simple: Artstation page was taken down.

This is a very raging story. No wonder why there are fewer freeplay quality mods in modern sims. But is what the playerbase chose too.
