Today is 23:57h of May 8th. Same day as today, 39 years ago, one of the biggest legends of this wonderful sport, and one of my favourite drivers ever (despite i've not seen him race in life, as I born a lot of years later) passed away. Even today, he's still remembered.

Ladies and gentleman, here he is: Gilles Villeneuve

1978: A tough year with a final joy: His first F1 win in his home soil.
Post your F1 Challenge '99-'02 Videos/Screenshots here - Page 7 Grab_034

1979: One of my favourite years, with one of my favourite cars ever, and the best season for Gilles. He could have won the drivers championship this year. However, after Zandvoort (and his famous and infamous 3 wheels ride), Scheckter finished the race and took the preference of the team. Villeneuve was a perfect teammate that year, helping Jody to win the title, hoping that he would get the payback in 1980. In the pic, one of the best and happiest days in Ferrari's history.
Post your F1 Challenge '99-'02 Videos/Screenshots here - Page 7 Grab_035

1980: This year was suposed to be a continuation of 1979. However, even if the car looked very similar to the previous 312T4, its performance was absolutely the opposite. It was a complete disaster. Slow, and unreliable, with a lot of problems. Even in Gilles arms, the competence was simply unreachable. Williams, Ligier, Renault or Brabham, were in another planet. He could score only 6 points in all season, vs 2 points of Jody Scheckter, the former world champion of 79.
Post your F1 Challenge '99-'02 Videos/Screenshots here - Page 7 Grab_036

1981: First V6 turbo of Ferrari, from the 80s turbo era. Villeneuve had risk A LOT that year, with few rewards. However, Gilles did score some podiums and 2 epic victories at Monaco and Spain. Both of them, 2 of the most iconical and epic wins in F1, specially the last one at Jarama.
Post your F1 Challenge '99-'02 Videos/Screenshots here - Page 7 Grab_037

1982: This year Ferrari was competitive again, and had a strong car to fight the championship. However... at Imola everything changed with the battle against his teammate Didier Pironi. For Gilles, it was a betrayal. Nothing would be the same after that. 2 weeks later, and still being upset, the great Gilles Villeneuve lost his life in an horrific crash in the qualifying session of the Belgian Grand Prix, at Zolder.

You will always be remembered, "Avviatore". Forever "Febre Villeneuve/Villeneuve Fever"

28-November-2021. A legendary man passed away. Today, we all are a little bit of Williams. Here is a little F1C tribute in his name:
28-Noviembre-2021. Ha fallecido un hombre legendario. Hoy, todos somos un poco Williams. He aquí un tributo F1C en su nombre:

1977: The beggining of the team that would become the great one, using a March 761B drove by the belgian Patrick Neve. The last team built after the tryings of De Tomaso (1970), Politoys (1972), ISO-Marlboro (1973-1974), Williams (the first one, 1975) and Wolf-Williams (1976).

1978: The first Williams properly made, designed by the great Patrick Head, and only one car, drove by the australian Alan Jones. The first points of the team would come this season, and the first podium at Watkins Glen (USA).

1979: After some good results... the first Wing Car for Williams. Also, the first season with 2 cars on track. After some fixes and a bit of time, the car would become the fastest on the field, achieving the first win of the team at Silverstone (at home soil), by the swiss Clay Regazzoni. Alan Jones would win 4 more races that season, being the alternative force of Ferrari, that won the title. Late, but they were finally on the front. It was just a warning of what would come later...

1980: The first year of glory. Williams won their 1st drivers & constructors title in 1980, with Alan Jones as a champion, defeating the young brazilian Nelson Piquet in his 2nd full season in F1, with a resurrected Brabham. The small team was not small anymore.

1982: After the internal war of 1981 (despite that, they won the constructor's as they still had the best car of the field), Williams won the title again in 1982, probably the most weird season of all, and one of the most tragic ones (with 1994 permission). The finnish Keke Rosberg became champion with just one win, and the car that finished 4th in the constructors. Would be the last title of a normally-aspirated car, until the ban of the Turbo's.

Post your F1 Challenge '99-'02 Videos/Screenshots here - Page 7 Willia18

1986: The great FW11. After some seasons in the front-middle part of the grid, years of transition within the change to a Turbo engine, a new project by Honda, they were back in the front rows again. Williams would win the constructors in 1986, and both drivers/constructors in 1987. Would be the 3rd and last title for Piquet, and some of the best performances ever from the Lion, Nigel Mansell.

1992: Probably the best Williams ever. Surelly, the most technological one alongside FW15 (1993). Nigel Mansell would finally win his title, in 1992.

1996: Damon Hill, son of the legendary Graham Hill, finally won his title at 1996. Would be an special title for Williams, after 2 years without winning it, and specially after the death of the legend of legends, Ayrton Senna, with the FW16. Murray Walker "had to stop, because he had a lump in his throat".

1997: The last championship for Williams. Would win both drivers and constructors, after a legendary battle with Michael Schumacher and his resurrected Ferrari. Jacques Villeneuve's title would be the end of a glory decade for Williams, being the best car all seasons between 1992-1997, winning 9 titles in this period: 4 driver's title and All constructors, but 1995.

2003: Not the best car, but still one of the fastest, the beautiful Williams BMW. 2003 would be the closest time to win the title again, with Juan Pablo Montoya, but not close enough.

Post your F1 Challenge '99-'02 Videos/Screenshots here - Page 7 Willia24

2008: After losing BMW engine, Williams would never be again a front row car. Still some good results and a few podiums these years, with Nico Rosberg as their best driver.

Post your F1 Challenge '99-'02 Videos/Screenshots here - Page 7 Willia25

2012: Lost in the depths of the field, after their worst season of it's history (2011 & 2013), Williams achieved their last win up to date: A legendary win at Spain 2012, with Pastor Maldonado, above the local hero Fernando Alonso. Still nobody can explain how this car managed to be so bloody fast that day. Williams would finish 8th from 12 in the constructors.

Post your F1 Challenge '99-'02 Videos/Screenshots here - Page 7 Willia23

2014: Frank Williams was becoming older, and left the team to his daughter, Claire. The best Williams of the Turbo-Hybrid era, would be the first one. With the Mercedes super engine, but a bad chassis & aero, Williams still would achieve some podiums between 2014-2017, and their last Pole Position in Austria 2014. The team would progressively lose competitiveness, as well as the other engines were slowly closing the gap to Mercedes. Felipe Massa and a young Valtteri Bottas would defend the team, until Bottas left to Mercedes (late 2016), and Massa's retirement (late 2017). Martini's livery was one of the most beautiful ones.

Post your F1 Challenge '99-'02 Videos/Screenshots here - Page 7 Willia26

2020: After Massa's retirement, the team lost the few competitiveness they still had. Late 2018, and specially 2019 and 2020, Williams was the slowest team of the grid, scoring just ONE point in 2019, and no points in 2020. Despite counting with a great emerging talent, George Russell, this was not enough. Williams was more lost than ever, and without money and sponsors, the finnancial chrysis was insufferable. Williams sold the team to Dorilton Capital, thats conserves the name up to date. 2021 is being a better season, with some good results in points of Russell and Latifi, and one podium in a non-race at Belgium. Probably better times will come for Williams (we hope so), but onfurtunately Frank Williams will not see it.
